Workcover Pain Education Sessions
Supporting Injured Workers to Understand and Manage Persistent Pain
Pain Education is a specialised WorkCover-supported pilot program designed to help injured workers who are experiencing, or may be developing, persistent pain. These sessions provide clear, evidence-based guidance to help individuals understand the nature of their pain, improve confidence in movement and make informed decisions about their recovery. With the support of an APA-titled Pain Physiotherapist, workers gain practical tools that complement their existing treatment and support their return to work and daily life.
What Pain Education Involves
Pain Education focuses on building knowledge and self-management skills, particularly for individuals whose recovery may not be progressing as expected. The sessions explore:
How pain works in the body and nervous system
Why some injuries develop persistent pain patterns
How thoughts, stress and environment can influence pain
Strategies that help calm the system and support healing
Ways to safely build activity tolerance and movement confidence.
This targeted approach empowers injured workers to better understand their condition, reduce fear around movement and actively participate in their rehabilitation.
Program Details and Structure
WorkCover currently funds six Pain Education sessions, delivered either face-to-face or via Telehealth, with an APA-titled Pain Physiotherapist. These sessions are designed to sit alongside other approved treatments and can be accessed at any stage of the worker’s recovery journey.
Participation is completely optional, giving workers the choice to engage with an approach that supports long-term recovery, independence and better health outcomes.
Who Can Benefit
Pain Education may be suitable for workers who:
-
Are experiencing lingering or escalating pain following an injury
-
Feel uncertain, anxious or fearful about movement
-
Want to better understand why pain persists and how to manage it
-
Are seeking evidence-based guidance to complement their existing treatment
-
Are at risk of developing long-term or complex pain conditions.
Your Journey with Reset
Your first session will begin with a comprehensive assessment to understand your pain story - not just the physical symptoms, but how your body, mind, and daily life interact. From there, we’ll create a tailored plan combining education, movement retraining, CBT-informed strategies, and self-management tools designed to promote recovery and prevent relapse.
Our approach is compassionate, collaborative, and evidence-based - empowering you to move, think, and live differently.
